Privacy Policy
Privacy and data protection
This page explains how the WAWIK Movement website collects, uses and stores personal information, and how those practices relate to the services we currently use.
1. Who we are
WAWIK Movement is a South African governance reform movement and this website is used to share information, publish updates and receive enquiries from members, supporters and the public. This privacy policy explains how personal information is collected, used, stored and protected while using the website.
2. Information we collect
We may collect information you provide directly through our website, including name, email address, phone number, enquiry type and message content. We may also receive technical information automatically from visitors, such as browser type, device information, pages visited and referral information when analytics tools are enabled.
3. How we collect information
We collect personal information in several ways: through the contact and membership forms on the website; via email notification services used to send submitted enquiries; through our database provider when records are stored for persistence and follow-up; and, when activated, through Google Analytics to understand website traffic and user behaviour.
4. Formspree: email notifications
When you submit an enquiry through the website, the form data may be sent to Formspree for email delivery and notification purposes. Formspree helps us route form submissions to the designated contact inboxes. We use the information only to receive, review and respond to enquiries submitted by visitors.
5. Neon: data persistence
We may store submitted form data in Neon, a database platform used for persistence and record keeping. The information stored may include the fields submitted in the relevant form, such as full name, email, phone number, enquiry category and message content. This allows us to maintain records for follow-up, reporting and operational administration.
6. Google Analytics (adding soon)
Google Analytics may be added in the future to help us understand how visitors interact with the website, which pages are most frequently accessed and how the site is used. When enabled, analytics may include aggregated traffic data and general usage metrics. It is not intended to be used for direct identification of individuals, and we will provide additional notice before active deployment.
7. How we use your information
We use the information collected to respond to enquiries, manage contact records, store legitimate organisational records, support membership and enquiry administration and improve the website and user experience. We do not use personal information for unrelated marketing purposes without clear consent.
8. Legal basis and consent
Where required by applicable law, we will process personal information on a lawful basis such as consent, contract necessity or legitimate organisational interests. By submitting a form on the website, you consent to the processing described in this policy for the stated purpose of communication, administration and record-keeping.
9. Data sharing and third parties
We may share personal information with service providers that support our website operations, including email delivery tools, database hosting and analytics services. These providers are used only to assist with the services described above and are expected to process personal data in accordance with their own privacy obligations.
10. Data retention
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected, to comply with legal obligations or to support legitimate organisational administration. If a submission is no longer needed, it may be removed in line with internal records policy and legal requirements.
11. Your rights
Depending on applicable law, you may have the right to request access to your personal information, request correction of inaccuracies, request deletion of data where appropriate, or object to certain processing activities. If you would like to exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details below.
12. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from unauthorised access, misuse and loss. However, no website or online communication system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, and users should take care when submitting sensitive information online.
13. Contact
For questions about this privacy policy or requests related to personal information, please contact the WAWIK Movement at info@wawik.org.za. We will review requests in line with the applicable privacy laws and our operational requirements.
14. Changes to this policy
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in the website, services, legal obligations or operational practices. Any material changes will be clearly communicated on this page.
